Canadian French?

I thought about this article yesterday in class while we were talking "bout Canadian English :)
Why don't we talk about canadian French... We are in Quebec , HUH? (lol)
Only three of us amoung the students are french speakers...so i thought that after Canadian english and as you choose Montreal as city... u ll probably have to " get in touch with Canadian french " :P

As a french speaker, I spent all my primary school, college and high school in the french system. In my home country , then later in Tunisia where i end up my school.I went to french school so i get used with their accent. Beside, i didn't really take the real french accent... You can ask to the french speaker in class... i think i just don't have any accent , at least everybody told me that :P
About the french " french" accent, you will understand what i mean when you will go to area such as Laurier or Notre dame de grace here in Montreal... theres is a lot of french people there and their accents is way too different from mine....

When i came here... it was amazing how i wasn't able to understand a real Quebec citizens talking to me in french...
The accent sounded odd in my ears, even the words they were using... ( actually the word they use)
I can't say that they have an accent and i don't have... what i know is that it was different from all the french accent i have ever heard... Damn it!!! I was lost!!!

The first year went well...because i was in preparatory year with many students from all over the words, but most from french institutions so we could understand each other easily...
The real choc but also the real socialization step start my second year, when i start my degree...
Oh boy, i was the only " black girl " of the class... with two others french people...All the others were from quebec even most part of my teacher...
So imagine how difficult it was at the beginning... We weren't able to get a word... so we had to work hard at home...
But month within months we finally get used to it...

Now... in french , i can go from French accent ( typical one) to Quebec 's one without any problem...
The most strange thing is that, during holidays, each time i get into the Air France plane i am shocked by the french accent of stewart in it...and vice versa when i am on my way back to Montreal, at Eliaut trudeau , i am also shocked by the accent of people, police ect there...It is crazy:P

After your english class... you should definitly take french class...even if you plann to leave Montreal for the Ontario part...it is always a " plus" in your resume... ;)
forthermore it is easier to get in touch with people when you are able to speak the " same language"
I love that ...

If you can go from Chinese or Arabic to english... u ll be able to learn french as well :)
For my part i am thinking about Chinese and Arabic classes... suggestions?
Maybe some of you would like to teach me sometimes :P

ps : You should definitly check out this link !!!
If only yall could understand the Canadian french gags...my french speakers...go for it, u ll
relly laugh out loud...
but tehres always an english version...its not as funny as in french ( :P ) but you gonna love it
:P

How do you feel about those Mid-terms results?

For my part...
I was really happy with all the speaking writting , presentation part... ( I love writting and paraphrasing idea from others and adding my own opinion. Talking in front of a class... nothing unconfortable for me, i lOVE it :P )
But i am deeply dissapointed with my reading... i mean the text about Bongaart and Lombergs ( i couldn't forget their name now... spent too much time on them...)
I guess after my 3 years of university , i forgot how to deal with a text an question about it... how to nswer without avoiding large answers... :P
I was too sure maybe :P
I am definitly going to work on it...
But in a general way... I think i did a graet job ...hehehe :)

I also get the comment that i missed a lot of class ...
The real answer is that i am working after some class...and sometimes... after 6 hours spent at Concordia 4 at works , essay to write, it is sometimes difficult to wake up on time...:(
Intensive english class... i think that the day i registered for the class... i forget what " intensive" mean :P
But i ll pay attention about that ..I promiss Sherry :P

In a general way, i would like to collect your impression about your exam...
"really happy, cool with, dissapointed ect..."
Only one conclusion, we definitly have to do better for th finals...
Com'on we do have graet Teachers so we ll be able to beat the scores!!!!
YAYEEEEEEE :D

By the way , good luck peeps with ur research paper!
I am definitly into it :P

POPULATION ' s topic : IVORY COAST

1. How many children did your grandparents have? What about your parents? How many children do you want to have?

In Africa, having a lot of children is a sign of happiness and success.
As a matter of fact, my grand parents had 10 children ( from my father's side) and 15 ( from my mother side) ... I am still wonderin how they manage to make of each of them the greta personn they became but i guess that there was more facilities in the past.
Today the realisty seems to be different, my parents had 4th children, my two sisters, my brothers and I.And i really think it is the perfect number! :)
For my part i am planning to have 3 or four as may parents did. Seems that the reality they face crisis and all about family planning ect is qite the same for my generation!
However i am wonderin how will i combine my projets with all those kids... :-) ... And my grand mothers said that 4 is not enough... really???

2. What is the population of your country? What impact does the population have on the quality of life there?
Ivory Coast in west Africa has a population of 17 millions of habitants.I think it is quite big for this part of africa, with bigger country such as Mali with their 14 millions, senegal with their 11 millions ect...
About the impact on the population, i deeply think that it will influence the quality of life.
Indeed, it is a good thing to always have workers in the country. We are not going to face any gap because of a lack of employee or a similar situation. And with a economic logic, the more we are, the more we work , moreover the more customers we have...
In theory it is suppose to increase life quality at least, but in practice... it is somehow, way differents from that...

3.Has there been a significant shift in your country from rural areas to urban areas? If yes, what are the consequences?

Definitly!!!
In 2004, my country face a dramatic putsh tentativ. Millions of foreign rebelles had been introduced in the country in order to fight with the army, but also to kill witout remorse all person who will go against their will. The country had been divided in two part during almost 3 years and rebelles and local army were fighting from each side of a " virtual" line dividing the country. No one probably get enough courage to cross the line!
While they were fighting, rebelles in the north were robbing, killing , stealing and making life miserable to people living there. This situation lead to a massive exode from north rurals areas to south urbans ones!As consequences, it lead to a major problem : The deep incapacity to find a job for those " emigrants " ! Actually, the problem is still on " topics" , but the governments is working on it really hard!

Later... Presentation

Hy everyone...

Before starting blogging, I though that a brief introduction about me should be my first step on da " blogging space " !!!As I join the class later, I face a lot of difficulties dealing with the blog assignment...Damn.. this course is really intensive...:P

Anyways... As people may know by this time... i am the lattest in this group , but i am far from letting this being an handicap...

I am a young girl full of energy coming from Ivory coast, a little country in west Africa.
I live here in Montreal for 4 years now, and i will be done with my bachelor degree in finance at HEC Montreal next term ... at least i hope.
I took this semester off because i want to transfer later in USA or here in Concordia for a master or another financial tiltle... i don't know yet...
But also because i need a little break ... finance courses were gettin' harder... :S

As you, i want to beat the score at this level because i also need it to get into a full program in english! So i am gettin a bit mad, when i heard ( yes i do) people whisperin in class that " i don't really need those 70 % " at this level...
But " hell no" i do need them... but guess what, i want 80 % if possible...
I have no lack of ambition as you can see...This is why, i am maybe really strict when i have to study in group and that some people are not taking it as seriously as i can do...
But i admit I should calm down sometimes... but hey... after 3 years of HEC... i'm gettin more strict day after day...

Anyways... Beside school... i am passionate by all the fashion world...
" Fashion is a second religion "... you will see that with my research paper...but for now ... shut!!!

Ok now, i am going to focus on sherry's assignment on her blog...
and i hope that the rest of the course will be as good as it has been by now:)
